LAVEDA

Laveda started in the winter of 2018–2019 as the project of Ali Genevich (vocals/guitar) and Jake Brooks (vocals/guitar/synths), who self-recorded singles that grew into their debut album What Happens After, released in 2020 in the midst of pandemic lockdown. They expanded into a full band with drummer Joe Taurone and bassist Dan Carr, and moved from their hometown of Albany to New York City in 2023.

Sound-wise, they've evolved with each record: early work leaned into dreamy introspection, while their new third album, Love, Darla (Bar/None Records, September 2025), pushes into gritty, visceral territory blending 80s punk and 90s grunge — the record opens with a wall of feedback erupting into frenetic post-punk, and songs carry echoes of Sonic Youth, Pixies, and Interpol. One reviewer called "Heaven," the album's lead single, its dreamy, chorus-pumped crown jewel, breaking from the outright punkiness of the rest of the record.
